My son sent me the link to SBS who are recruiting for contestants on this show..

If it is like the American version, might be quite good, the Scandinavian versions have not been quite as good IMHO.

I looked at the application first page, but they want a lot of info, so I thought I would watch one of the BCOZ take part and cheer them on from my armchair with cold beer in hand!

have been watching the "ALONE" series, since it first appeared, skill set and frame of mind are two big factors,
the other factor that impacts the most, is when they draw lots for the locations, IMHO....."some" tend to get slightly better locations than others.

be interesting to see/know the aussie "remote wilderness"? location!

I agree about the locations being a significant factor. Most of the American participants make pretty standard and sensible gear selections.
The Scandinavian series... some with very good skill sets, some had never used a firesteel, and the amount of kit they were allowed to take was just short of the kitchen sink...
The purest series of Alone was Alone the Beast, where they have the clothes on their backs and no knife or any other kit. Watching them process an alligator in the swamp with no stones was an education.

Yeah , the Scandi Alones were ........ Soft Feel Good SNAG fests !

The biggest thing lacking from my perspective - Is simple drive !
People just seem to LAG something awful when they reach their destinations ...
If my back was not FUBAR , I would be all over this alone stuff .
I am just amazed by the lack of motivation from the contestants ..
Especially early on , when they should be full of beans .

Build your shelter / fireplace ....
And get your food gathering act together !
It's almost like these people suffer tunnel vision or something ... They try one way of fishing and when it fails they give up ?
I found watching alone frustrating as hell .

Where is the fishing spear ? , the fishing pot ? , the fishing line ? , the fishing net ?
Seriously , don't go on the show unless you have at least 3 ways of getting stuff done ..
3 Ways of building a shelter
3 Ways of making a fire place
3 Ways of fishing
3 Ways of hunting

These people go there and almost instantly lose 50 IQ points !
If there is going to be a Ozzi Alone , I look forward to it .
Just hope they don't pick a bunch of armchair experts ( all talk and no action ) .

I like practicing the skills needed in good times before its hard times.

There are some traps that are illegal , and the laws would prohibit so much that would be used in a real survival situation . Like drum nets for example , possibly spears in some situations , eating native animals etc . Here in Australia .

I try and place where the context of the show would fall , plane crash ? Broken down car etc ? Or just a hypothetical t.v situation which is fine.

If I was going in the bush long term I would load up the trailer with gear.

That would make an interesting tv show too , taking enough gear to make a shack and get self sufficient with whats taken for a few seasons .

Have watched a little bit of this show on youtube.
Amazing you could spend a 100 days in the bush , then they would turn that into a few short episodes.

Would be great to support someone you know on it . If someone here is up for it and in a position to be able to take up the challenge .

I have filled in an application but need more video content to finish it off. My main concerns are A) Can we eat native species (even if only using traditional weapons)? Because I suck at fishing and, B) The location factor. Not many of us are familiar with cold environments like Alpine Victoria or Tassie and at the other end of the spectrum coastal Northern Aust. Has so many different challenges as everything wants to kill you there making it more export worthy. Either way I'd give it a crack and see how we go.
N.B. It is SBS. The casting call was also leaning heavily toward Indigenous LBGTQI bilingual multicultural people with a disability which puts me at a disadvantage in the application.

Fishing = A staple for surviving Alone !
Tasmania is the place I think will get picked as a Lo Cal for filming .
Especially as Alone almost always picks cold places ...

I agree. Begin filming in June and I predict a cold climate. I am working on my fishing but Echidna don't run fast and taste like lamb lol
Good luck with your application.

Another question is around income subsidy for loss of wages. If I take 4 months off work I'm gonna HAVE to win. Unlike the yanks we could maybe go 12 months lol.

It's the most miserable place I can think of in Australia ..
Especially on the South Coast of Tas , it would be hell on earth in Winter ..
And around some of those high country lakes , Brrrrr ! ( Snow )

I don't know Tas that well , I was planning a long time ago to go fishing there .. But never got around to it .
