Doesn't seem to be much happening in this part of the forum lately. Thought I'd make a post to stir things up a bit!

Took three grandkids, along with three friends camping for four days/ 3 nights a few weeks ago ( Ishould get an international campers medal for that act alone, let me tell you! 6 teenagers camping for three nights, phew!)

Anyway, knocked up a damper for them, some pics follow. I used a fish smoker outer and lid, and heat beads this time around. It's a bit easier to regulate heat than using coals, but the coals do work quite well this way as well.

I was recently given a really superb recipe for damper. we had it pretty much every night around the fire in a caravan park in SA. 3 cups self raising flour, 1 cup powdered milk 1/2 cup sugar. best one I have ever had. light and tasty every time

while travelling on the cheap, I used a cheap aluminium mess kit - put the mix inside and sit it on the coals. Loads of different ingredients over time - it didn't really matter. Corn, peas, dried fruit, oats, buckwheat, rice. Self raising wholemeal flour was the only constant (and water).

I'd consider all these breads - damper was a bit different, although that difference seems to be lost to time now, not that it matters.
