Lots of fennel around Melbourne, funny enough even in industrial areas. I used to hoot around on an mtb through tracks and alley ways, along train lines; the smell is awesome. Guinea pigs go ballistic over it.

yeah there heaps of fennel in Victoria, My grandpa used to harvest the wild fennel for food in a little alley behind his house.

Its lovely to chew some when you find it on a walk.
If there is seed, that's the best. If there isn't, then chewing a fresh, green stem in nice too
