We've had a massively windy today today; but earlier on I still went for a walk in a local park.

There was lots debris blowing about, and many branches down.

I noticed this just lying on the ground. Its a section of bark and cambium layer dislodged when the branch ripped off:

I took it home and cleaned it up. I removed the bark and shaped it nicely:

I removed any damaged sections from the sides, and trimmed the ends where there was some splitting. I also removed the outer bark.
If you don't trim off the split ends they will continue to split as the wood dries.

It was a delight to cut and shape and I was pretty pleased with the result.

I've put it in a cradled spot to dry out. If you don't support the coolamon it can distort as it dries.
Bracing it in place and filling it with sand can help weigh it down and support it as it dries.
