my first forged knife

this is the first thing I have forged other than a striker or that one hammer I made.

A striker/knife, to say I am proud of what I produced for my first effort is an understatement.

This is also my entry into the facebook weekly blacksmith challenge.

surprisingly well mate (spark test is in the post above) this was the first time I've oil quenched something and it sparked well, I normally do a water quench but as I was worried about cracks I went with the oil quench.

forging has opened a door I never knew needed opening and I really enjoy it and I am finding I am not too bad at it.

Keep at it. Your endeavours may open doors in the re enactment, medieval, bushcraft shows like the one coming at Orange N.S.W I have mentioned.
