Project: Tracking Tool

Author/Instructor: auscraft

Description:

To produce two measuring tools that can be used in the studying of tracking. The First is a simple tracking stick, the second a scale ruler for use in photography to show size of an object.

Tools Required:
- Ruler/pencil
- cutting knife or scissors
- Hammer
- Possibly a drill
- Cutting mat

Materials:
- Length of Dowel or straight stick 4ft
- 4 O-rings to fit dowel or string
- Eyelet and setter or rivets
- Permanent marker
- Flat material (plastic, cardboard or steel)

TIPS:
- Sharpen one end of tracking stick so you always remember the end you used to start measuring.
- You can use any material you want to make a tracking stick the straighter the better,If you usually use a walking stick you could simply use that rather than make or carry another.
-Making a scale ruler you can use any material you like even paper that has been laminated for strength. I would also suggest laminating cardboard for durability. Also you don’t need to make a folding ruler although more practical to pack you can simply make a right angle fixed ruler

Time needed: 2 hrs

Learning Outcomes:
The ability to produce some basic tools required for tracking and photography without having to buy them.

Assessment Criteria:
To successfully complete this project you must present:
- include photos of making them
- A brief written statement on how you made them and the materials used
- You must include the date on which the task took place

Instructions:
- To be completed at home at your leisure
- Use any materials you have at hand
- include scale marking on your scale ruler

Clean-up:
- tidy your area of shavings and unwanted waste
- pack away all tools.
