I started with a bone, leftover from dinner and broke a shard off
Cooked bone tends to be more brittle than raw ... but that's what I have)

I used some flint to score cuts and then used the sandstone as a hammer to break smaller sections off.
(The copper flaker was to sharpen the flint)
Once I'd roughed it out rubbed it against various stones to sand it smooth.
I wet it occasionally to control bone dust (which should not be breathed in)

The finished awl. Its super sharp and quite lovely and smooth to hold:
